Workshop Detailed Agenda

MODULE 1: Turn Any Workgroup Into a Team

In Module 1 we help you turn your good workgroups into high-functioning teams. We will assess the differences between workgroups and teams. We will work through a Strategic Team Member Assessment to help you better understand where changes may be needed.

Learning Objectives:
– Examine the results of your Strategic Team Member Assessment.
– Identify the elements of high-functioning teams.
– Create up to five tactical implementation measures.

MODULE 2: Move From Manager to Leader
In Module 2 we perform a deep dive into the differences between management and leadership. Yes, there are differences! And yes, both skillsets are important and necessary. But this is where confusion can derail our best intentions. We will articulate leadership best practices and outline how to lead as a coach.

Learning Objectives:
– Examine the key differences between management and leadership.
– Examine the best practices of leadership through a coaching leadership style.

MODULE 3: The COACH Success Model

In Module 3 we will learn The COACH Success Model key elements that will contextualize the work of a coaching leader. We will also look at impostor syndrome and how to create executive presence (or what we call, coach presence).

Learning Objective:
– Cite and define the elements of The COACH Success Model.
– Define coaching presence and the role of a coaching leader.

MODULE 4: Create a "Thick Trust" Work Environment
How to do we naturally and sustainably incentivize our team members’ best efforts? You can’t tell someone to be excellent (maybe you have tried that already?). Instead we need to create the right environment—an environment of “thick trust.” Only when we work in a thick trust environment can we move below the superficial excuses into the true limitations, roadblocks, and mindsets that hamper great work. Finally we will learn how to make empathy feel right and authentic. Decode the power and role of emotional intelligence to strengthen your relationships with team members, peers, and supervisors.
Learning Objectives:
– Cite the key elements of a “thick trust” work environment.
– Identify, describe, and demonstrate the four kinds of working empathy.
– Identify, describe, and demonstrate the four building blocks of emotional intelligence.
MODULE 5: Coaching Leader Fundamentals
A coaching leadership style is separate and distinct from other leadership styles. It is also separate and distinct from the professional coaching you would receive from a coach outside the organization. Coaching within an organization requires a different approach. In Module 5 we will identify the key mindsets, characteristics, approach, and systematic behaviors of effective coaching leaders. We will dissect great “coaching micro-moments” bringing to light the nuance of interacting with team members from a coach perspective.
Learning Objectives:
– Identify, describe, and demonstrate elements of effective coaching micro-moments.
– Identify and describe the fundamental coaching leader behaviors.
MODULE 6: Advanced Coaching Communication
Module 6 helps the coaching leader go deeper to develop more effective communication skills. Indeed the only tool any leader has is communication. Learn how to “read” the other while in conversation to determine the underlying messages. Learn the Looping Technique for demonstrative listening. Learn the Question Hierarchy and how to phrase questions to include content, tone, and body language to minimize miscommunications and encourage clarity. Module 6 is about becoming a world-class communicator.
Learning Objectives:
– Identify, describe, and practice the Looping Technique during conversation.
– Identify key body language, energy, and word choice signatures that underpin effective communication.
MODULE 7: The Coach Approach to Challenging Team Members and Situations
Module 7 contains a multitude of practical strategies and easy tactics to overcome common team member challenges (both solo and interpersonal). You will learn how to deescalate tense situations, create buy-in for unpopular ideas and assignments, and how disagree but commit. You will learn how to counsel team members through tough challenges. You will learn when to intervene and when to hold back. You will learn how to “manage up.”
Learning Objectives:
– Demonstrate coaching tactics to deescalate common team member difficulties.
– Cite and define the steps to proper team member (and leader) accountability.
– Analyze strategies to “manage up” and protect your team’s ability to do their best work.
