Finally! The Coaching Leadership Style Made Simple and Clear

by | Oct 7, 2024 | Coaching Leader

Let’s get clear on the coaching leadership style.

Simplified definition of coaching?
A collaborative process of problem solving.

Simplified definition of the coaching leadership style?
An active and intentional process of developing a team that helps the organization achieve its biggest goals.

What does the organizational coach do?
They focus more of their time on the 3 C’s. Coaching leaders build:

  • Confidence
  • Capability
  • Capacity

The challenge of choosing to coach?
Coaching is neither easy nor fast, but coaching does offer the highest ROI on the leader’s time. The ROI translates to higher margin and improved expertise that permits the team to work on bigger and bigger problems over time.

How do they do this?
Coaching leaders elevate the team from “another thing they have to deal with” status to key contributor status. Coaching leaders also elevate the goals from afterthought to intentional achievement. “Elevating” in this sense means an additional investment of time, focus, and energy.

***Of note, leadership and management are separate things.***

  • Management is behavior that compels action.
  • Leadership is behavior that inspires action.
